Picture of Margate, and its Vicinity, by W. C. Oulton, Esq., author of the Traveller's Guide, &c. &c. Illustrated with a Map and Twenty Views, engraved by J. J. Shury, from Drawings by Captain G. Varlo, R. M.. Published by Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, of Paternoster Row, in 1820.

The book sold for 9s [The Euopean Magazine and London Review, June 1820].

Little is known about the author, Walley Chamberlain Oulton, except that he was the author of about twenty plays published between 1784 and 1817, and was a native of Dublin. In 1805 he wrote 'The Traveller's Guide, or English Itinerary.'

Copies of Picture of Margate have frequently been broken up for their plates, which are often found hand-coloured, but rather faded. The copy shown here has coloured plates retained in the bound book, so that the colours have remained original and vibrant
